Ten successful applicants kick-start their Careers at Be Wiser
Be Wiser has recently launched the fourth year of its talent development programmes by welcoming ten budding young insurance professionals into its growing academy.
The award-winning development programmes provide candidates with an introduction to the world of insurance broking and aims to ‘kick-start’ their careers as insurance professionals.
This is achieved by providing valuable working experience and support to achieve industry-recognised qualifications.
The KickStart graduate programme and SureStart apprenticeship programme aim to fast-track candidates to ACII (the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Advanced Diploma qualification) in just three years, which is the insurance equivalent to a university degree.
The HeadStart apprenticeship programme for school-leavers - aims to take candidates to Diploma level (DCII) in just two years – the equivalent to an A-level qualification.
All tuition, including external CII tutors, course materials and exam entry fees are paid for by Be Wiser.
During their time at the company, development programme candidates are placed in different departments throughout the business, to gain a sound understanding of how each department functions and contributes to the overall success of the company.
Excited to be amongst the ten successful applicants to join the company, Marcus Artwell (pictured far-right) took a few minutes from his busy training schedule to tell us about his experience so far:
Why did you choose the programme?
“It is a great opportunity to learn about the insurance industry, while gaining invaluable experience.”
How are you finding it so far?
“It is a great working environment, challenging, but you are given great support to help with the challenges and move forward.”
What are you looking forward to?
“Once the 6 week training is over, getting into department, exceeding targets and hitting bonus and beginning my CII studies towards my advanced diploma.”
Ben Collins, a KickStart graduate approaching his final year explained how rewarding the programme has been for him:
“The KickStart programme has been a real revelation for me, I’ve found that insurance broking is far more diverse than I originally thought. I’ve been in sales, customer service, internal audit and now web design. Every position is vastly different to the last and you gain great insight into how the business operates.”
Ben graduated from the University of Winchester in 2013, but like many graduates found it difficult to find a job as employers were insisting on previous experience.
“I found Be Wiser’s attitude very refreshing in comparison to other companies,” he explained.
“Instead of looking for the finished article, Be Wiser focuses on developing its own talent from within and is extremely good at it.”
“I am hoping to be offered a full time position at Be Wiser once I have completed my final year, because it’s a fantastic business and the rate that it is growing means that there is real scope for career progression.”
The Director of Learning and Organisational Development at Be Wiser, Crescens George said:
“Businesses should not expect colleges to churn talent out, you will never get the right talent, you have to invest in the basics and train those people so they are right for your business.”
“That is the philosophy surrounding all of Be Wiser’s learning and development programmes, be it the KickStart graduate scheme, or our award winning apprenticeship programmes such as the SureStart sixth-form college-leaver programme or the HeadStart school-leaver programme.”
