Hard work and commitment has paid off for a 26 year old employee of Be Wiser Insurance in Andover.

Leonard Smith, who has worked at the company for two and a half years, has won the Employee of the Year category in the Inspire Business Awards.

Businesses from all over Hampshire submitted applications for their employee’s to win the prestigious title.

“It’s amazing,” said Leonard who lives in Andover. “It was unexpected but it’s fantastic to get recognition for what I do. I knew I was down to the final three but when they called out my name I was shocked.”

Leonard had to successfully complete several stages before he was interviewed at the Be Wiser office in Andover by two judges from the awards.

He so impressed them with details about the work he has completed in the Be Wiser sales departments, as an induction trainer and now as an apprentice assessor that he was shortlisted down to the last three finalists.

It was his manager Kelly Scanlan who put him forward for the award.

“Leonard is an outstanding employee,” said Kelly. ”He is committed to what we do here at Be Wiser and understands our company values. Leonard actively seeks out opportunities to gain knowledge and experience which has made him wise beyond his years and a key member of staff.”

Having worked hard to achieve his role at Be Wiser Leonard says he takes pride in what he does. As well as studying for a diploma in insurance he finds time to do charity work locally.

“Leonard is an excellent example of an employee who lives and breathes our company values,” said Kelly Scanlan.

“He has been involved in projects outside his typical day job and in 2014 Leonard worked with a local school to support pupils pursuing young enterprise projects. He gave them advice and helped their development by looking at their business projects. He was also able to inspire enthusiasm for the financial services in the young people who had not previously considered the industry. Leonard has also worked with Andover Young Carers delivering training sessions to the young carers to build confidence and prepare them for working in a business environment.”
